On Saturday, October 4, the curtains to the Kyabram Plaza Theatre will rise for Melbourne comedian Em Rusciano, who will bring her charms to regional Victoria for one night only.
If you haven’t crossed paths with Ms Rusciano before, she is a comedian, singer, writer, podcaster and former radio host who first burst into the spotlight on Australian Idol.
Since then, she has sold-out national tours, written best-selling books, topped the podcast charts and won hearts across the country by being unapologetically herself.
Whether she’s belting out a ballad or delivering a biting punchline, Ms Rusciano is a master at turning life’s messiest moments into magic.
The show has been organised by EmpowHER, a local non-for-profit organisation focused on connecting women through social events.
It follows on from the success of last year’s event, which featured local comics and podcasters Alisha Beavis and Kelly Scorey, who left the theatre audience with belly aches from laughter.
EmpowHER committee member Ebony Pigatto, reflecting on the group’s stellar events over the past year, promised this year’s show would be a side-splitting celebration of female camaraderie.
“We thought this would be a good chance to bring comedy to town for an event for people that may not be able to get to Melbourne,” Ms Pigatto said.
“The event is just about bringing people together to have a good laugh. Obviously, with the footy and netball season finishing, we wanted to create a few more events out in the community.
“It’s something a bit different, and it’s about having a bit of a laugh.”
Speaking about this year’s performer, Ms Pigatto said the committee was happy to have secured a show from a successful comic who also perfectly aligned with the EmpowHER values.
Ms Rusciano’s recent six-part podcast series, Rage Against the Vagine, tackled topics such as perimenopause and midlife women’s health.
Ms Pigatto said she believed the show would resonate with a lot of women.
“She’s a real, down-to-earth kind of person. It would be worth coming and listening to what she’s got to say, no matter the age group you’re in,” she said.
“If you’re a young person, if you’re in that perimenopause bracket, if you’ve got young children or anything like that, I think you’d enjoy it — she’s an all-rounder.”
Tickets are $75 and available through TryBooking at tinyurl.com/383h39tr
Each ticket will include a light supper at the Kyabram Plaza Theatre at 6pm, before Ms Rusciano takes to the stage at 7.30pm.
Seats are limited, and with Ms Rusciano’s track record of selling out shows, the committee expects tickets to go quickly.
