The Swans played in their first Goulburn Valley League finals series in a decade this season under Wright’s guidance, who also oversaw a resurgent incline in wins year-on-year.
But the man coming in to replace him isn’t a stranger to success of his own.
Sullivan is a three-time Nagambie premiership coach who orchestrated some of the Lakers more remarkable triumphs, also spending time at Port Melbourne in recent seasons before making his way to Princess Park as an assistant under Wright.
“It just came to the end of the year that Jedd probably felt that his heart wasn't completely right into going another year, he obviously put in three solid years recruiting and bringing through that young group,” Sullivan said.
“He’s built what's been three years in the making, and I’m Johnny-come-lately to be fair.
“The side’s picked up 12 wins this year, progressing from seven the year before.
“He’s done an enormous job; he's brought in players and developed the core group.”
The Swans bowed out in the elimination final against Echuca by 18 points, but planning is already underway for Sullivan and co to ensure their stay in the finals frame and pursuit of a first flag since 2014 is a continued one.
“We obviously have a good core, with a young thirds group who have played off in grand finals,” Sullivan said.
“Obviously, we've got our older statesman Quade Johnstone and Andrew Riordan, they’re warriors of the football club.
“We probably want to inject similar sort of players to them, just for that bit of experience to filter throughout that group.
“We looked through just a couple of probably experience heads just to assist and then fall into our game plan.”
Up north at Victoria Park, there’s been a changing of the guard in Echuca’s coaching structure, with a familiar face returning to the set-up.
Three-time premiership coach Simon Maddox will continue on into an eighth season, co-coaching alongside the returning Angus Byrne.
The 2022 Murray Bombers flag member and former Geelong VFL captain returns to Echuca after spending a season with Noosa in the AFL Queensland League, while Leo Tenace takes a step back.
