The shop officially opened on July 22, marking a bold new chapter for Kerrie, who never imagined she’d one day be at the helm of her own business.
Pastries and bakeries run in the family, as Kerrie’s daughter and son-in-law Shekiah and Matt Aylett own the famous and locally loved North End Bakehouse franchise.
“I went to work there (North End Bakehouse) and helped them out a bit,” Kerrie said.
“I told my son-in-law at the beginning that I was never going to serve or make coffee, I’d just help out out the back. But he dragged me into doing both, and now I just love it.”
Kerrie said she had long dreamed of running her own business.
“I’d never owned a business, I had always wanted to do it but the opportunity just never came,” she said.
“Then this place was up for grabs — it used to be a lolly shop, but it had nothing in it. We had to put in all new flooring, new ceiling, new equipment — everything.”
With help from her family, including her son, a plasterer, and Matt, who guided her through the business side — Kerrie said it was a true team effort.
“I really jumped in the deep end,” she said.
“The response has been good. It’s taken a little while for people to know we’re here, but we’re starting to get our regular customers now.”
The shop’s must-haves? The Bushman and the Vegetarian Pastie — both cornerstone wholesale products of North End Bakehouse that locals know and love.
While the space offers no dine-in options, Kerrie said Pie Stop’s focus on high-quality takeaway pies and pastries kept customers coming back.
Pie Stop is located at 644 Wyndham St, Shepparton, next to Subway.
Sweet and savoury options are on offer at Pie Stop.
