It was a large turnout of Benalla knitters, with 16 converging on The Merchant for lunch to mark Worldwide Knit in Piblic Day.
Worldwide Knit in Public Day started in 2005 and has grown in popularity ever since.
A Benalla Social Knitters spokesperson said it was a day for knitters and crafters to spend time together, work on their projects and take their craft activities into public spaces.
“It’s a fun day on our local crafting calendar, and it has been marked in Benalla by Benalla Social Knitters since 2019,” the spokesperson said.
The group enjoyed a long lunch, time to knit, as well as lucky door prizes made by group members.
The lucky prize winners received a handmade project bag complete with a new illustration of Benalla crafting.
There were some fantastic projects on the needles and hooks at the event this year, including a caravanning-themed rug, a newly finished beanie and lots of socks.
Benalla Social Knitters meets every Sunday to sit and knit from 2pm to 4pm.
All crafters are welcome to attend events. Check the group’s Facebook page for locations.
