A Broadford petition has been backed by state Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland.
The petition calls for urgent safety improvements at the Hamilton St and High St intersection.
Launched by the Broadford Residents Action Group, the petition calls on the state and federal governments to implement traffic lights and pedestrian safety measures before any further works are carried out.
“The Broadford community has been clear,” Ms Cleeland said.
“They are deeply concerned about Inland Rail’s proposed changes to the Hamilton St Bridge and the serious safety risks they pose.
“The Hamilton and High St intersection is the busiest in Broadford, and raising the bridge without effective traffic lights and improved signage will only make it more dangerous.”
Following a recent meeting with Victorian Roads and Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne, Ms Cleeland has called for the Department of Transport’s safety report on the Australian Rail Track Corporation’s proposed changes to be released publicly.
“I am proud to sponsor this petition, and thank BRAG for their tireless work,” Ms Cleeland said.
“I will continue to push for proper safety infrastructure before it is too late.”
