Round three of the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association’s A-grade men competition had Strikers take on Shepparton Youth Club at Shepparton Regional Hockey Complex on Saturday.
In a tight and see-sawing contest, Shepparton Youth Club came away with the chocolates in a 2-1 victory.
Shepparton’s Brandon Trevaskis scored both his side’s goals and was named among the best.
Michael Neilsen and Matthew Irwin were named best-on and second-best-on for Shepparton, respectively.
Strikers’ Evan Collins scored his side’s sole goal.
Echuca Moama (had the bye) sits in last place, Shepparton is second and Strikers rank first in the three-team competition.
In round three of the senior women competition, also played at Shepparton's hockey complex on Saturday, goals flooded the two matches’ scoresheets.
Shepparton Youth Club ran over the top of Echuca Moama to win the match 5-3, with SYC’s Kim Starkey starring with a brace.
Strikers dominated Euroa, winning 0-14.
Rachelle Collins struck a glut of goals for Strikers as she finished with five, while Raechel Gardiner also had a day to remember with four.
Strikers currently sit in first place on the ladder with Shepparton closely trailing, while Euroa remains stuck to the bottom as the club hunts its first victory for the season.
