Healthy Mind Solutions introduces RTMS and ADHD therapy in Shepparton

Healthy Mind Solutions, a mental health clinic in Shepparton, is expanding its services to improve support for locals with various mental health challenges.

The clinic, which aims to help people of all ages, has been offering repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for the past two years.

RTMS is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. It’s being used to help with conditions such as chronic pain, tinnitus and depression, and even to assist with quitting smoking.

While RTMS is considered safe and is usually well-tolerated, it does come with some risks, including a chance of seizures. Before starting, patients need to see a psychiatrist to ensure the treatment is right for them. According to Healthy Mind Solutions practice owner Dr Vijay Raj, there’s no downtime, and the side effects are minimal.

Healthy Mind Solutions reports that 64 per cent of its clients have seen improvements or remission in their symptoms after undergoing RTMS, though 18 per cent didn’t experience any change. To make it easier for more people to access this treatment, Medicare and WorkCover offer rebates for RTMS sessions.

In addition to RTMS, the clinic has recently introduced ADHD group therapy sessions. Trained nurses run the sessions and start with an introductory session to help participants decide if the program is a good fit for them. If they choose to continue, they can attend weekly sessions for an hour each.
