Six polling booths are now open in the North East region for local indigenous people to vote in the election.
Shepparton's booth is at Aldara Yenara: The Emmanuel Cooper OA Centre, 207-217 Wyndham St, which is open weekdays from 10am to 6pm.
Other polling booths are at:
● Njernda Aboriginal Corporation, 86 Hare St, Echuca;
● Goranwarrabul House (Seymour Health), Bretonneux St, Seymour.
● North East Support and Action for Youth, 86–90 Rowan St, Wangaratta.
● Mansfield Library, corner of High and Collopy Sts, Mansfield.
● The Cube Wodonga, 118 Hovell St, Wodonga.
A free community event will be held in Shepparton on Saturday for indigenous people to come together to vote and celebrate the important step toward treaty negotiations.
The free, all-ages family day will be held at Victoria Park Lake from 2pm to 6pm.
Traditional indigenous games will be held and performances from Shepparton singer Breeanna Lee and Aldara Yenara Boy's Dance Crew will provide entertainment.
The Lions Club will host a free barbecue, and a jumping castle and face painting will also be on offer.
Voting for the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria opened on September 16 and will close on October 20. More information at: firstpeoplesvic.org
