A family has escaped from their Mooroopna home after a fire started in one of the bedrooms.
A woman woke to the sound of a smoke alarm around 1am on Thursday.
Looking for the cause, she opened one of the bedrooms to a large amount of smoke.
Quickly evacuting three others, the CFA were called at about 1.05am.
Shepparton and Mooroopna CFA attended the scene and the fire was under control in 15 minutes.
There was no significant damage to the house, however a set of curtains in the bedroom were involved in the incident.
CFA operations officer Peter Dedman said the woman's quick thinking as well as working smoke alarms stopped a more serious incident from occurring.
"Her actions saved others from what could have potentially been a nasty situation," Mr Dedman said.
"Without smoke alarms it could have been quite different."
