Large-scale, long-term repairs for Victorian roads

Roads in ruin: Victorian roads have been damaged by several flood events over the past year, causing potholes and posing risk to drivers.

Works are set to commence on flood-damaged roads across north-central Victoria as part of an emergency blitz jointly funded by the Victorian and federal governments.

The $99.5 million rebuild and recovery package includes large-scale, long-term repairs for Victoria’s worst-damaged roads, including those in the Loddon Mallee region.

Some of the roads set to undergo repairs include Bendigo-Redesdale Rd, Prairie-Rochester Rd, Heathcote-Nagambie Rd and the Loddon Valley Hwy.

Further flood recovery road works will be undertaken along the Sunraysia Hwy and Patchewollock-Sea Lake Rd over the coming months.

Works set to be delivered under the package include fully rebuilding some of the most damaged sections of road, major asphalting, landslip stabilisation, repairs to structures and road shoulders, clearing of roadside drains and culverts, replacing signs, safety barriers and other important roadside assets.

Crews will also carry out roadside mowing and slashing to reduce the risk of bushfires posed by unseasonal accelerated growth.

Four separate flood events have hit Victoria since Christmas forcing many road closures and causing significant damage.

Since then, additional resources have been deployed across the state to deliver short-term emergency repairs and to help ensure all roads are reopened.

“Continuing Victoria’s road to recovery after these recent flood events is our number one priority, and we’ll deliver these large-scale repairs as quickly and safely as we can.” Victorian Roads and Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne said.
