She said the move would gain a deeper understanding about the views of the community to merge four government schools into one at the start of next year.
‘‘CMS (Constituent Management Services) are undertaking this survey on behalf of The Nationals, because we are concerned the local member and the Andrews Government are seeking to portray community concern about the school as coming from a minority,’’ Ms Ryan said.
‘‘That does not resonate with the feedback I have been getting.’’ Ms Ryan believed the government’s consultation process had been ‘‘flawed’’.
‘‘Gathering the views of a cross-section of the community gives us an opportunity to present that information back to government,’’ she said.
The telephone survey asks if the listener supports the super school, their concern level in regards to lack of promised funding and if there has been adequate consultation from ‘‘Labor and the Independent Member for Shepparton’’.
The final question asks the listener if they are concerned the ‘‘Independent Member for Shepparton is supporting the super school’’.
Victorian Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed was disappointed about the Coalition’s involvement.
‘‘I’m disappointed that the Coalition parties, who at no stage in the past 10 years have advocated for any modernisation of education in Greater Shepparton, and who have contributed so little until now in relation into this project except for negativity, are taking it upon themselves to undermine any improvements into education and wellbeing of the young people in our region,’’ she said.
Ms Sheed said Coalition members had been involved throughout the entire consultation process of the Shepparton Education Plan.
‘‘Throughout the whole process they’ve understood what’s going on but only recently have they chosen to take a stand when final decisions have been made without developing any policy themselves,’’ she said.
‘‘This is a transformational change...we couldn’t leave things the way they were.
‘‘I couldn’t leave things the way they were.’’
