At Waaia Recreation Reserve, the two loaded teams went to battle in a back-and-forth contest no side could take a decisive grip on until the Bombers landed haymakers in the final quarter, kicking five goals to one for that period to pinch a 19-point win.
The Bombers are heading back to the final four to try and reach their first grand final since 2015, also looking to make up for last year's preliminary final effort where they fell to Rennie by a single point for their only loss of the season.
For Katamatite, it will lick its wounds and go again next weekend in a semi-final against Rennie at Mathoura, where it will get the chance to show what it learned from a thrilling contest against possibly the league's best side.
The Tigers were purring early and showed what they are capable of, finding four goals in the first quarter to hit quarter-time 10 points in front, with the Bombers well aware they were in a ball game.
Waaia got going and there was little separating the sides at the main break, the Tigers remaining one point in front, but with a vicious opponent right on their heels.
But Katamatite kept firing, kicking five goals to four in the third term to turn for home seven points in front.
But the dangerous Bombers stood up with the game on the line, slotting five goals in the final quarter to storm home and head to the preliminary finals.
Mark Meyland finished with four goals for the Bombers to continue his strong campaign, with Charlie Burrows, Brayden Coates, Sam Richardson and Ash Thompson all chipping in with two.
Thompson, Connor Brown and Richardson were named the Bombers' best, while Brodie McDonald was dominant for Katamatite, named the Tigers' best players after a five-goal haul.
Other standouts for the Tigers included Aaryn Cormican, Tom Buzza and Trent Steers.
