The ladies section of the club hosted its opening day yesterday to tee-off another year on the course, and with it came presidents day — where former leaders of the club return to celebrate together.
Current president Sally Nayler welcomed her predecessors to the function and felt the tradition is one which is an integral part of the start of each new season.
‘‘Our opening day is always presidents day and we always invite back all our presidents to honour them and they usually all come too, so it’s really good to see them all here,’’ Nayler said.
‘‘It’s an excellent day to kick off the season and sort of sets the tone for the rest of the year (and says) we’re going to have a good year ahead.’’
With more presidential experience than Mount Rushmore in attendance each opening day, Nayler was spoilt for choice when searching for guidance concerning the season ahead.
‘‘They’re always a font of knowledge and we do gain a lot of knowledge from them and there’s a lot to be had from them,’’ she said.
‘‘They always are full of good advice and it’s always good to see them here year after year.’’
The event — held on the first Wednesday of March each year — is always one of the first dates circled in the calendar for the Shepparton Golf Club’s ladies members as they look forward to another campaign on the course.
‘‘I’d just like to wish all the golfing girls a good year ahead,’’ Nayler said.
‘‘We know it’s going to be a year of fun and friendship.’’
