The Finley Fire Cadets members were among a number from the Rural Fire Service Southern Border region to participate in the event over the weekend, held in Holbrook.
The championship is a two-day event comprising 15 activities, including first aid and map reading.
The event not only encourages the cadets to put their firefighting skills to the test but also helps them develop and improve their teamwork, communication, and leadership abilities.
The cadet teams are timed during each activity, and time is added to the final score if mistakes are made during the exercise.
Two teams of cadets from Finley entered the championships and received assistance from two cadets from Corowa, who had volunteered to be a part of the teams.
The senior Finley cadet team came out on top at the end of the event, claiming the event trophy for ‘Comms Converse’.
Tocumwal Rural Fire Service Senior Deputy Captain John Kelleher, who accompanied the teams to Holbrook, expressed his pride in the cadets and their achievements.
“I’ve been training some of these cadets for three years now, and I’m very proud to see that hard work pay off with how they handle these exercises,” he said.
“It’s nice to see the next generation getting so involved with something like this.”
Sr Dep Capt Kelleher said the fun the cadets had is evidenced by an eagerness to compete again next year.
