Sirius College recognises cultures

Shepparton’s Sirius College celebrated Harmony Day on Friday with a series of dress-ups, stories and food to recognise all cultures within the school.

School teacher Stacey Koktas said Sirius College was lucky to have so much diversity to celebrate.

‘‘We’ve invited all the families to come along to have a Harmony Day picnic and everyone has brought along traditional food to share,’’ Ms Koktas said.

Students showed off family traditions and dressed to impress for the occasion.

‘‘The kids have dressed up in their traditional clothing or alternatively wearing orange to celebrate all the different cultures in our school and showing appreciation to everyone’s heritage,’’ Ms Koktas said.

After lunch students were chosen to share stories about living in Australia with the school.

‘‘Special things within their family, culture or traditions, travel or food,’’ Ms Koktas said.

Six students were awarded for showcasing harmony.

‘‘One student from each year level was awarded for showing all the qualities of being harmonious and being kind, helpful and caring to fellow students,’’ Ms Koktas said.
