The Blighty seniors’ head coach, Adrian Timmis, said the game against Katandra will be challenging if the team can’t get back to playing without complacency.
“It will be a tough test for sure,” he said.
“It depends on our playing group, whether or not they will be happy with one win.
“A bit of complacency crept in on the weekend (against Mathoura), but I was expecting it to happen.
“We didn’t stick to our game plan and, as a result, we didn’t win, unlike in round one.”
Timmis said he has realistic expectations of the team for this weekend’s match.
“My aim is that we are competitive this week. In football, it doesn’t go your way all day, every day.
“If they have better cattle on the park with more quality skills, there’s not much we can do other than work on our game plan and do our best. Katandra’s been a really strong side for a long time.”
The team’s plan to reduce Katandra’s effectiveness around the ball will be to “limit Katandra’s ball use, by us having possession and not them”.
“We need to control their movement through the corridor, as they like to move the ball laterally a lot and off they go to the races.
“We will have a defensive first mindset and let the outcome be the outcome.”
With one win and one loss to start the season, Timmis again spoke of the need for a “fresh start”.
“We need to be positive and, first and foremost, have fun. That’s what we’re all here for, to enjoy it.
“People have told me a loss last year would have been much bigger, but we’re trying to be a different side this year. It’s a clean slate start.
“Losing on the weekend was tough, but it should hurt when we lose.”
This weekend the team will try to enact more consistency, which Timmis said was lacking against Mathoura.
“Kudos to Mathoura. They’re probably 12 months ahead of us, but we’re getting there.
“I’d like us to be more consistent across 16 games and do the basic things well rather than win one game.
“We struggled with basic things, missing targets and dropping chest marks.
“Everyone has bad days, and sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way, but hopefully, this week, we compete.”
