Council is seeking community feedback on Welsford St draft concept designs, and in particular, is consulting landowners and occupiers of land on Welsford St.
The draft concept designs are for the next stages of the Welsford St upgrade, between High St and Sobraon St.
The six-stage project seeks to cater for Welsford St’s role as a busy north-south arterial road, by increasing road capacity, improving traffic flow, safety and amenity for vehicles and pedestrians.
Council said residents could book a 20-minute one-on-one appointment with officers to discuss the draft plans at the following times:
- Thursday, August 31 between 5pm and 8pm;
- Friday, September 8 between 1pm and 4pm;
- Wednesday, September 13 between 3pm and 6pm.
The upgrade is a key outcome of the Shepparton CBD Strategy 2008 and the Shepparton and Mooroopna 2050: Regional City Growth Plan, which seek to improve access to the CBD by reducing through traffic and redirecting freight and non-local traffic on to alternative routes.
The designs include:
- Intersection improvements at Welsford St/High St, and Sobraon/Wyndham St with additional turning lanes;
- Modified intersection at Welsford St/Vaughan St to allow for only left-turn in and left-turn out movements with improved pedestrian infrastructure;
- A new pedestrian and cycling shared path on the western side of Welsford St;
- The retention of most trees where possible;
- Undergrounding powerlines in Welsford St where possible.
“The draft concept designs for Welsford St Stages five and six propose significant changes to traffic movements and access in the area and it’s important that the community are aware of these potential changes and have their say,” Mayor Shane Sali said.
Draft consultation will take place from Monday, August 21 until Monday, September 18, with details available on council’s Shaping Greater Shepp website at https://shaping.greatershepparton.com.au/
Feedback can be emailed to council@shepparton.vic.gov.au, completed online at https://shaping.greatershepparton.com.au or posted to Greater Shepparton City Council, Locked Bag 1000, Shepparton 3632.
