The hall of fame trainer will relocate to Hong Kong in July next year, leaving nephew Tom Dabernig and son Ben Hayes to run the Australian racing empire.
Hayes previously trained in Hong Kong for nine years, between 1996 and 2005, where he twice won the training premiership, as well as winning 17 group ones.
"Using my late father's motto, 'the future belongs to those who plan for it'," Hayes said yesterday.
"I'm really excited to announce that I'm taking up a trainers' licence in 12 months' time in the booming racing economy of Hong Kong."
Confidence in his emerging team - having run the operation with Dabernig and Ben Hayes since 2014 - made the overseas mission a possibility for Hayes.
"I haven't taken this decision lightly and, over the last 15 years we've been developing Lindsay Park Euroa into a world-class training centre," he said.
"Lindsay Park is my lifetime's work and I can assure all my clients that it will be business as usual.
"I have full confidence in my team. Tom Dabernig, who has been working at Lindsay Park all his working life, and Ben Hayes, who has worked the last 10 years under me, will continue to run the training operation
"I'm really excited about watching the boys flourish. I'm sure they will do well and I'm only going to be a phone call away."
