The package’s return was announced by Community Sport Minister Ros Spence on Tuesday, in a further $10 million instalment – taking the pledge total towards grassroots organisations to $50 million.
“Community sporting clubs are the backbone of many local communities and this will help support them through very tough times,” Spence said.
“These clubs are a second home to many people and the support they receive is in effect support for the hundreds of thousands of players, volunteers and supporters who make these organisations so valuable.”
The fourth round provides clubs the opportunity to apply for a grant of $1500, while local leagues and associations can pocket up to $2500 to cover costs and lost revenue associated with the cancellation of training, development programs and competition.
With all local leagues affected in some shape or form over winter, any Victorian club to have suffered a loss due to the current lockdown will be eligible to apply, including clubs that have been awarded grants in earlier rounds of the program.
Previous recipients will be asked to respond to an email from Sport and Recreation Victoria by October 29, 2021 to receive their top-up grant.
The tidings are similarly buoyant for bodies waiting with bated breath for their seasons to begin in summer.
Clubs and associations doing it tough with restrictions on training and competitions are also eligible beneficiaries, and can secure footing to help ease into the return to play under the Victorian roadmap.
