On Thursday, March 7, Shepparton’s St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria unveiled its first in-store Acknowledgement of Country plaque, with 110 more to appear across the state.

Vinnies Victoria chief executive Paul Turton and executive general manager Jeff Antcliff were both in attendance.

The Welcome to Country was by Corey Walker, a Traditional Owner of the lands of the Yorta Yorta people.

The plaque is a small step in Vinnies’ reconciliation action plan, Mr Turton said.

“A plan is an intention. This plaque is an intention,” he said.

“This is a place that sits on Yorta Yorta land, and because it sits here, it is our intention to build a relationship with Yorta Yorta people and all Aboriginal people.”
