CWA has group conference at Shepparton East Football Netball Club

Around 45 women attended the group conference at the Eastern Country Women’s Association on Wednesday.

The annual general meeting took up the morning, which was followed by a lunch, before Victorian CWA president Marion Dewar was guest speaker in the afternoon.

Recently re-elected Eastern Goulburn Valley CWA group president Val Gibbs said the day was going well.

“This morning, we had Fiona Smolenaars from Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project, which was very enlightening — she told us their agenda for the year and she’s called upon volunteers,” Mrs Gibbs said.

“And we’re lucky to have the state president speaking to us this afternoon.”

The CWA has been campaigning for drought relief and bushfire-affected communities across Victoria, and Mrs Gibbs said the support they received had been “great”.

Mrs Gibbs said there was plenty going on this year for her group.

“We’ve also got a craft exhibition to come in April, we cater for the Shepparton Show and for the women’s motorbike riders who come through Shepparton — so we mix with a really diverse range of people,” she said.

The CWA has been running for nearly 92 years.
