Cooinda held its annual Australia Day celebrations on Wednesday, January 25.

According to chief executive officer Alex McKenna the day was a great celebration of people’s achievements as well as their dedication to Cooinda.

“It was a fun day enjoyed by all, which included presentations of Cooinda Australia Day Awards and Cooinda’s traditional thong throw, followed by a barbecue lunch and pavlova.”

The 101-year-old can be found walking daily laps around Cooinda and in the garden and joins in activities every week where she is known for her ready smile and welcoming nature.

Volunteer Angus Howell was another award recipient.
In 2022, Mr Howell came in for a total of 26 days and volunteered a total of 1256 hours for the year.

He was considered a “rock” for Cooinda’s foundations during lockdown and COVID-19 when Mr Howell worked five days a week, including on weekends.
Other awards went to individual staff members including executive manager finance Cameron Gray and as well as entire departments with the senior management team receiving the team award.
Barbecue delight: A delicious barbecue was put on for residents.
