If not, you only have until this Sunday, January 22, to have the experience of skating on ice in the middle of summer.
There has been a constant flow of participants since the venue at the Finley showgrounds opened earlier in the month with many travelling from surrounding towns.
This unique activity has been made possible with the assistance of funding through the NSW State Government’s Reconnecting Regional NSW – Community Events Program.
The venue will be open daily between the hours of 10am and 8pm, with the last session booking at 7pm.
Water safety in any community is of vital importance and towns in the Berrigan Shire are no exception.
With this in mind, Sarah Haynes - daughter of Ashley and Ruth - has been participating in the SwimVAC school holiday program operated by Royal Life Saving New South Wales which has been running in Finley and surrounding towns.
The program provides an opportunity for children to learn fundamental swimming and water safety skills.
Sarah is passionate in her endeavours to ensure everyone is given the opportunity to learn to swim.
“We have a large number of enrolments and are fortunate to have accessible swimming pools in all our towns for community members“ she said.
“We are lucky to have proactive committees who open the pools for us and enable the program to take place in a clean and safe environment.
“I gained my appreciation of swimming through this program initially with the then teacher, Jane Hawkins.
“In my mid-teens, I joined the swim club under Jenny Isedale who has been a very supportive mentor and encouraged me to pursue swim teaching.
“Lifeguarding is also something that I take part in, and I see it as a way of providing a service to ensure the pool is open for all to enjoy.”
