A 15 and under competition will be introduced following interest from key netball stakeholders in the region.
Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club’s senior netball coach Georgie Bruce said it was very exciting for the club.
“This is the first time we’ve had an under 15 team so it’s really great not only for our club but all clubs in Ovens and Murray region,” she said.
“It’s been talked about for a very long time. As a result, we are beginning trials this week for anyone interested in being part of the competition.”
Trials begin for Under 15s and under 17s this week at John Foord Oval (Tuesday, October 25 and Thursday, October 27).
Trials will continue next week (Tuesday, November 1 and Thursday, November 3) at John Foord Oval from 5pm.
League Chairman David Sinclair said the O&M are extremely pleased to be able to introduce a fifth grade of netball, in the form of a 15 and under competition, and provide a genuine pathway for netballers into the Senior grades.
"This is a result of an exhaustive consultation process with clubs over the last four years and they are to be congratulated on their willingness to overcome the hurdles that will see organic growth to an already formidable netball competition," Mr Sinclair said.
O&M Director and Netball Sub-Committee Chair, Tamara Matthews said following on from the success of the 17 and under competition, the OMFNL is committed to continuing the development of junior players in the region and providing them with a pathway to senior Ovens and Murray netball.
"It is an exciting opportunity for the league to develop connections with other sections of the community, and for the ten clubs to engage with junior players and their families at an earlier stage of their netball journey,” Ms Matthews said.
