Katamatite police Leading Senior Constable Chris Westrope fined the woman after seeing her driving at 123 km/h in the 100 km/h zone on Katamatite-Shepparton Rd, about 5 km south of Katamatite on Monday, June 5.
He described the woman’s actions as “stupidity” in what he said was thick fog where visibility was poor.
“I could not see 200 m in front of me,” he said.
“It was unbelievable.”
Leading Sen Constable Westrope said the woman also had four children in the car at the time.
He warned people to slow down and drive to the conditions when it was foggy and visibility was poor.
“Drive at 80 or 90 km/h,” he said.
“Slow down and get to your destination, even though you might be late.”Burnouts cause concern
Police are concerned at the number of burnouts being done on rural roads in the region.
Katamatite police Leading Senior Constable Chris Westrope said there were large tyre marks from burnouts found on Katamatite-Nathalia Rd between Katamatite and Numurkah over the past few months.
At the Wunghnu Rd and Labuan Rd intersection at Drumanure, near Invergordon, is another area police say is being used for burnouts.
Leading Sen Constable Westrope said bits of tyres were often found at the intersections, where tyres had been burnt out or down to their rims.
“It’s got to be someone with access to second-hand tyres,” he said.
“No-one would burn out new tyres like that.”
Anyone with information about the burnouts is asked to phone Katamatite police on 5865 1336 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit crimestoppersvic.com.au
