It was a case of third time lucky for Dookie, who had fallen at the final hurdle in the Goulburn Valley Bowls Division across the previous two years, but there was to be no choking this time as it raced away to a 57-31 victory over Katandra West.
Summing up the win as sublime, team manager Glenda Exton said it was a sweet reward for several members of the side.
“It feels really good, the last two years we have been beaten in the grand final,” she said.
“I think it was an overall good team effort, we all played well and it is good that four players have got their first premiership.”
Glenda Reynolds’ rink – comprised of lead Trevor Feldtmann, second Shirley Purcell and third Ron Hark – managed to oust Fiona Rourke’s charges by a slight margin, setting a platform for Dookie to ground out a result.
However, the contest was well and truly won by Glenda Exton (s), Peter Morris, Harry Nichols and Daniel Oster, who brought the house down with a 37-14 shot succession.
Having ended the year in the best possible fashion, Exton mentioned yesterday’s flag was the cherry on top of a rollercoaster campaign.
“It was a bit up and down, but we finished it good at the right end of the season.”
