Update 11am: Trevor Whybrow appeared in the Shepparton Magistrates' Court this morning charged with the murder of a man in Mooroopna.

Mr Whybrow was remanded to remain in custody and will face court again in October.

7:30am A Shepparton man, 56, will appear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court today charged with the murder of a man in Mooroopna.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said emergency services were called to a McKean St property after an altercation about 8.50pm on Sunday.

Paramedics unsuccessfully attempted to revive a man outside one of the McKean St units.

Homicide Squad detectives charged a man with one count of murder last night and remanded him in custody.

Helen, who did not wish to share her last name, said the tight-knit Mooroopna residential community was in shock following the incident.

Helen said most of those living at the government housing flats were on disability pensions.

Neighbour Stojan Ristovski said he was also in shock.

Woken by police on Sunday night, Mr Ristovski said he had gone to bed early to catch a 4am soccer game.

Mr Ristovski said the dead man was ‘‘lovely’’ and a ‘‘good friend’’.

‘‘He was nice to everyone,’’ he said.
