Dale Crothers top state trainee

By Emily Moretto

Dale Crothers, a first year trainee from Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort, has won the PGA Australia Trainees’ Order of Merit for 2019.

The 23-year-old, who is originally from Benalla, had an outstanding first year of his three-year traineeship.

Crothers had an extensive grounding in the sport before officially taking up the traineeship. He spent two years studying at Iowa Western Community College and then spent last year working at the Yarrawonga Mulwala pro shop.

Dale has acquired a lot of achievements throughout 2019. He set up his campaign by taking out the Victorian/Tasmanian/South Australian Trainees’ Championship in May - also capturing the Victoria title.

Also included in his list of achievements was a top 10 finish in the overall $60,000 PGA National Futures in Ballarat - the first time Crothers had played the Ballarat course.

Crothers backed up quickly with a win in a pro-am at Lilydale and then shot a round of 59. He played 27 trainee tournaments this year.
