A talented Western Australian footballer who was drafted to the AFL last Thursday has a local link to Yarrawonga.
Jaxon Prior was drafted with Pick 59 to the Brisbane Lions joining 2018 draftee and local Ely Smith.
Prior who played football for West Perth in the WAFL was a standout performer for Western Australia in their Under 18 National Championship victory in July.
The local link comes about through Jaxon’s mother and Grandparents who are former residents of Yarrawonga.
Jaxon’s mother Kara married former Essendon and West Coast Eagles defender Michael Prior.
Kara lived in Yarrawonga as a youngster with her parents George and Helen Tustanowski.
Helen’s maiden name was Oakley.
George and Helen moved to Perth a few years ago and have watched intently as their Grandson Jaxon progressed through his junior football before making his senior debut with West Perth.
Jaxon was recently named in the WAFL Colts team of the year, described as a talented half back with good size and rebounding ability with a lovely left foot with the ability to play on different body types.
Jaxon’s father Michael Prior has been an Assistant Coach at Fremantle for the last decade.
