The Murray Bushrangers 2020 pre-season commenced in early November with a number of local players invited to train.
Players from Yarrawonga, Rennie and Tungamah are training with the hopes of gaining a spot on the Murray Bushrangers NAB League final squad.
In the Under 18 training squad are Tungamah’s Nick Irvine, Rennie’s Joel O’Dwyer along with Yarrawonga’s Ned Pendergast, Jett Smith, Will Wheaton, Zac Banch and Will Sexton.
Irvine and Pendergast represented the Bushrangers at Under 18 level in the 2019 NAB League season, while Pendergast, Wheaton and Banch played in the Bushrangers Under 16 undefeated team with Smith missing with injury.
At Under 16 level seven local players are training to make the Murray Bushrangers NAB League Under 16 Country Championship squad of 25.
Tom Gorman, Will Connell, Zach Fraser, Oliver Ridley and Sam Hemphill along with Max Mickelson and Caleb Mitchell.
The Under 16’s will play three games against Gippsland Power, Bendigo Pioneers and Greater Western Victoria Rebel across March and April.
The three games also act as selection games for the Victorian Country team to contest the National Under 16 Championship later in the year.
Both squads will train from early November through until March when the final squads are announced after two weekly training sessions followed by trial games in the new year before squads are finalised.
