Group ecstatic with Calcutta win

The Melbourne Cup Calcutta night at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort on the eve of the race that stops a nation is a must on the year’s calendar for a group of golfing fanatics.

Known as ‘The Harrison Group’, the 16-member group has been coming to Yarrawonga Mulwala for a week of golf - and attending the popular Calcutta – for 24 years.

“This is our 24th year and the second time we’ve won in the Calcutta,” group captain Adrian Fletcher gladly told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.

“We won with Ethereal in 2001 (with Scott Seamer on board) and you can say we are absolutely ecstatic with this year’s win.”

That’s understandable, with the win valued at $12,000! “We are predominately from the ACT, one from Townsville, one from Benalla and two from Bega,” 56-year-old Adrian, a member at The Federal Golf Club, said.

“We love coming here for golf, at both Black Bull for two days and the rest of the week at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.

“They are both great golf courses and there’s plenty to do in town.”
