The second annual Remembrance Bowls Tournament at ClubMulwala took place last Sunday with 60 bowlers from five clubs participating on the club’s two greens.

“We do intend, with your support, to continue the day, on the second Sunday in November. We need your support,” Stan Clarke OAM told the 60 players from two Shepparton clubs, and from Chiltern, St James, Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Bowls Club and Yarrawonga Bowls Club.

“It is of particular interest to us because our Services Club and these bowling greens were officially opened on 11th November 1961. We hope to see this tournament become a yearly event.”

Last year, a re-enactment of that day in 1961 took place as part of the 2018 Remembrance Day Service.

“Following the success of last year’s special day bowls event, the RSL Sub-Branch, in conjunction with the outdoor bowls committee, wanted Stan, and John Dunstan, also OAM, to be the event’s patrons. The club agreed to it,” explained club director David King.

Mr Dunstan was unable to attend last Sunday due to a family commitment in Corowa. “It’s quite an honour,” Mr Clarke said of being made a patron.

ClubMulwala’s event was three games, 10 ends with total prize money of $1,000.
