YMGCR Bowls

Another busy week at YMGCR. It seems that every day saw bowling on the greens and what a delight it is to see the facilities being so utilised.

The weather has not been kind for the Pennant teams but then, both teams play in the same conditions, and just have to put their best foot forward and get on with the job at hand.

Club Events

Men’s Singles Championship is now under way and winners going forward to date are Garry Sanders, Steve Gann and Jimmy Le Fevre.

Region/State Singles

Play has begun for both men and women in the State Singles. At this stage Claire Sanders and Laureen Smith have both made it through to the semi-final level. Well done, girls.

Victorian Open

Due to the Victorian Open being held from November 15-22, there is no Pennant scheduled for this time. Many of the clubs players are entered and it is also an opportunity for everyone to witness some great bowling in Shepparton district during this time.

Bloke’s Day

A most successful Bloke’s Day on Oaks Day held last week attracted 60 bowlers from 10 clubs.

The day was played with great camaraderie and President Kerry Kinnane urged all present to take on board the issue of Prostate Cancer in their own health regime.

Overall winners were R Hermassoo (Yarrawonga), M Scown (Rutherglen) and A Vinecombe (Cobram).

Individual Game winners were S Gann (YMGCR), B Evans (YMGCR) and A Goudge (YMGCR).

Major raffle winners - R Brown and G Fisher.

A wonderful $700 was raised for Prostate Cancer.

Congratulations and thanks to all sponsors, organisers, and members who assisted with the running of the day.

There were many happy faces on the day with good wins and a few long faces as well with those who did not fare so well.

Even so the day was enjoyed by those who attended with good food and great company.

Sunday, November 10 - Remembrance Day 2 Bowls Triples Tournament.

A cool start to the day couldn’t suppress the enthusiasm of the 20 teams that took part in this annual tournament.

Veteran Mr Stan Cook OAM was introduced to the bowlers prior to the start of the game and spoke of the importance of this day to the ClubMulwala RSL Sub Branch and the carrying on the traditions of Remembrance and that this type of day held in the RSL’s honour helped to achieve this.

He stated that the RSL Sub Branch and Bowls Club shared the date when both were formed on 11/11/1961.

The ‘Ode was presented filled by the Last Post, a minute silence then Revellie as the beautiful Australian Flag was raised to full mast.

Mr Clarke OAM stayed and watched the games and presented the prizes at the end of the day.

Mulwala Outdoor Bowls Club were so honoured and grateful for the time and presence of this kind, warm hearted veteran.

President Graeme Arnold welcomed the many bowlers from local clubs YMGCR, Yarrawonga and those from surrounding districts as far away as Shepparton.

Bowls were played with much enthusiasm with the following results:

1st Place (3 game winners) were Daryl Dighton, Peter Humphries and Bev Norwood from Club Mulwala.

2nd Place (2 game winners and 1 draw) were Kerry Merrett, Mick Millsom and Loris Lochhead from ClubMulwala.

3rd Place winners (2 game winners and most shots up) were Richard Herarsoo, Roger McKenzie and Jan Herarsoo from Yarrawonga.

Prizes were also awarded for best 1st, 2nd and 3rd game winners with major prize winners ineligible.

A great day was enjoyed by all which also included a wonderful lunch put on by ClubMulwala.

Notes: A special mention to Peter Humphries, Malcolm Miller, Bev Norwood and Doug Chessum for gaining an 8 in Saturday’s pennant.

GA is keeping his unbeaten record of a wrong bias a week intact. Maybe this mention will remind him to check his bowls before his delivery.

A pretty lady has stated that she deliberately put in a blocker which resulted in her team achieving 7 shots. A great sacrifice MP.
