Yarrawonga’s open age football coaches for season 2020 were unveiled last Thursday evening at their home, the J C Lowe Oval.

“We’re looking forward to season 2020,” Yarrawonga Football Netball Club President Scott Jaques told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.

“Preseason will start Monday 18th November. All welcome.”

Announcements concerning recruits are imminent, which will hopefully include two star VFA players.

At the time of the Yarrawonga Chronicle going to print, newly appointed senior coach Mark Whiley was anxiously awaiting the news as to whether the Pigeons have snared some “beachside club” recruits.

Regardless of the outcome, Whiley is really looking forward to season 2020 and spoke of the new-look coaching group and of the playing personnel.

“It’s a pretty new and exciting lot of coaching faces, and adds to the excitement at the club,” the star midfielder, who soon turns 27-years-of-age,said.

“Our latest recruit is Mark McQualter, a mid-field forward in his early 20s from Berrigan. Any recruit adds to the excitement at the club.”

Continued development of the younger players will be a key focus of the new playing coach.

“Last season we had a lot of youngsters who were being developed into senior players and we want to continue that development for them to go and become 10-year players for Yarrawonga,” Whiley said.

“The senior coaching role is being spread which will mean more one-on-one time with that development of younger players.”

Whiley, who will have two senior assistant coaches in Marcus Cummins and Matt Dwyer, has been hampered with injury over the past two seasons but is pleased to convey a message to club supporters which will be well received.
