C Grade stifled by rain

The Yarrawonga Mulwala C Grade has had a rain affected game at Arundel Street Oval in Benalla as they took on the Benalla Bushrangers.

Winning the toss, the Yarrawonga Mulwala outfit batted first and compiled 3 for 168 from 16 overs.

Josh Bozzola and Dave True combined for 85 runs with Bozzola making 54 and then True and Bailey Frauenfelder added a partnership of 82 before True was dismissed for 54 runs.

Frauenfelder made 37 not out.

Heavy rain caused an end to the day.

Next Saturday the C Grade will tackle the Wangaratta Magpies on the great expanses of the Stan Hargreaves Oval in Yarrawonga.

It would be great to see as many people as possible down at the oval to cheer on the home side.

Under 16 Lakers post big score

The under 16s boys took on the City Colts on Saturday and after losing the toss and being sent in to bat the boys did not disappoint.

Jobe Kennedy and Hudson Gillies were both good at the top of the order until Jobe was dismissed for 19. Captain Caleb Mitchell and Hudson both continued on and both retired on 50.

Then Austin Willett came out to the crease and smacked the ball everywhere, making 43 not out, off just 33 balls faced with 5 boundaries.

The boys finished on 3/202 and will defend that next week.

U14 Bulls off to strong start

After winning the toss, the undermanned Bulls were happy to send their opponents Rovers Bruck Yellow into bat at the picturesque Vic Park, Stan Hargraves Oval.

It only took a few overs until a bullet return from Daniel O’Brien to keeper Jackson Purtell created a run out to get the boys up and about.

Lachlan Phillips then followed up his good form with the ball from last week, getting through the defence of Bruck players twice in 3 overs.

TJ Docking came on and had a wicket on his 4th ball thanks to a brilliant catch by Geoffrey Montgomery, then a second wicket in his second over, clean bowling the batsman.

Jeremy Baer came on to bowl and snared himself 2 wickets, one bowled, the other caught by Montgomery.

From here the boys had Bruck Yellow on the ropes at 7-56 after 21 overs but to their credit they held firm and kept out the good balls.

Pacey Haebich claimed himself a wicket near the end of play with a sharp chance taken by Lachlan Phillips.

Geoffrey Montgomery, Rudi Vodusek, Nate Kreeck, Daniel O’Brien and Jackson Purtell all bowled well with no luck, but their opportunities will come by bowling great line and length.

A special mention goes out to Luke O’Brien who stepped up from the Under 12’s to help the Bulls out in the field, the Bulls will now be looking to chase down 111 next Saturday morning.

Under 12s fall just short

On Saturday morning the Rams came up against Beechworth at Vic park.

After winning the toss the Rams sent Beechworth into bat. Nate Sheridan and Van Kreeck opened the bowling and both bowled very tight, not conceding many runs.

Darcy Hargreaves, Lachlan Johnson and Slater Goudie continued with the ball and restricted the Beechworth batsman with some good line and length bowling.

Ben Coffey and Kade Michael continued with the same, with Ben Coffey breaking through to grab a valuable wicket.

Ollie Watson, Jack Burns and Braith Goudie also bowled well at the end of the innings with Beechworth finishing 2/98.

Jack Burns and Van Kreeck then came out to bat and started positively before Jack was bowled for 6 and Van Kreeck brilliantly run out for 4.

Darcy Hargreaves and Nate Sheridan then came to the crease and batted with purpose with both boys retiring on 7 and 14.

Kade Michael and Lachlan Johnson also batted well in the middle of the innings with both retiring.

Ollie Watson and Braith Goudie continued with the good batting getting closer to the Beechworth score and both boys also retiring.

This bought Ben Coffey and Slater Goudie to the crease with Ben Coffey pouring on the pressure with some lusty hitting.

Unfortunately, the boys just fell short finishing 2/93 after a great game.
