The wind perhaps tempered scores a little and made for some close competition across most of the field.
Bill Bray had a day out taking out most of the major prizes for the day including the A grade event with a score of 83-15-68.
His round will cost him a shot from his handicap the next time he ventures out at Merrigum which means he has shed two shots in the past fortnight.
Bill also won Least Putts sponsored by Simon and Tash Doherty with 29 and also took out the Chook Shed challenge with 11 points over the four holes.
It was a healthy pay day for his group as this had jackpotted for a number of weeks.
Jeff Parry was the B grade winner with what may well be his best score in his short golf career, 99-31-68.
He too will find he has a shot less to play with next time he takes to the course.
Jeff also won nearest the pin on the fourteenth with a top shot.
Ball competition winners were Greg Hall with 69, Craig Doherty and Darryl Johnston both with 71 and James Campbell with 72 on a countback from Phil Savage, Russell Dunn and Andrew Wood.
The other three nearest the pins were won by Darryl Johnston on the sixth, Andrew Wood with a tremendous shot on the ninth and Phil Savage on the jackpot twelfth. Simon Doherty did nothing to quell speculation about his position as Luckiest expletive deleted Golfer In The Club after he was saved from going out of bounds by timber on the fifteenth and finished in the middle of the fairway and then managed to get back on the eighteenth fairway after another certain OOB was prevented by a sliver of 2.5mm fence wire.
We await with interest Lucky's next trick.
There was no twilight competition last week due to the extreme heat and dangerous winds.
It was a prudent decision when one sees the number of branches that came down on Thursday.
Craig Doherty ventured to Metropolitan Golf Club on Sunday to take part in the state Play 9 final.
He acquitted himself very well to finish four points off the pace on a course that would have been vastly different to the courses he normally plays and so he should be congratulated for his effort. Well done Craig!
Saturday's event is round 2 of the summer fourball and is pairs ambrose.
