The Eagles will come in with close to a full strength side after a week off due to the MFL split round, and coach Farran Priest can register a stronger showing than their 100-point round five defeat to the Lions, who are aiming to leapfrog Tongala back into second.
“We’ve had a bit of a tricky run playing a lot of the top sides twice,” Priest said.
“That was pretty hard to deal with, but I think it was also a good learning curve for the boys.
“We have winnable games to finish off. Rumbalara will come out hot trying to beat us, and it will be the same against Barooga; last time around the game got called off.”
Priest said with a number of the current crop of Eagles hinting at going around again next season, a string of wins to finish the season would be a positive step in the senior sides revival.
“If we can finish with three wins all up that will be a good stepping stone heading into next season, because the group sort of hinted they’re sticking around,” Priest said.
United sits in 11th, a game ahead of the winless Rumbalara, with its last start seeing it handed a heavy 88-point defeat to Cobram.
Mulwala will be looking to build on its 139 point victory over Barooga.
Elsewhere in the league, Nathalia, two games adrift of the top six, are hoping to close the gap with a match-up against 10th-placed Finley, while Cobram will look to put an end to Numurkah’s season.
Echuca United and Mulwala face off at Echuca South Recreation Reserve on Saturday, August 6 from 2pm.
