With a spot on the Melbourne Renegades academy program on the line, the 22-year-old former junior and senior cricketer out of Moama Reserve has survived a cut of 12 players down to the final three following a series of challenges.
The winner earns a place on the academy side and an opportunity to prove themselves in games against the Melbourne Stars academy in the lead-up to BBL12.
In his most recent stint with Moama CC, McCann’s class as a left-arm spinner and power hitter was obvious, snaring 29 wickets and 745 runs across the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.
Since making his move to Geelong Cricket Association club North Geelong at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season, McCann has walloped 911 runs and claimed 66 wickets in three seasons as one of the brightest young talents in the GCA.
“I think I can carry out all facets of the game; batting, bowling, fielding. That will keep me in good stead,” McCann said.
Taking part in a number of challenges in the three-part series — the second season of the show — McCann is now into the final three.
Now, the decision for the final winner goes to a public vote, and the player with the most votes will be anointed the victor.
The winner will be revealed when the final episode goes to air on the Melbourne Renegades Facebook page and 7Plus on Monday, August 15.
