The country’s top lawn bowlers hit the greens last week at the Australian Bowls Open in Queensland, with two Moama Bowling Club representatives reaching the quarter finals.

Hundreds of players took part in the Open in a variety of singles, pairs and fours categories.
Moama’s Cassandra Millerick and Jacob Brighton reached the quarter finals in the women’s singles and the under-18 boys singles, respectively, before both were unfortunately knocked out.
Millerick had some strong wins including a 21-11 victory in the fourth round to reach the quarters, before falling to eventual finalist Dawn Hayman (St Johns Park, NSW) 21-6.
Brighton meanwhile won his opening-round clash before he too lost to an eventual finalist in Jack McShane (Merrylands, NSW) in the quarter finals, 21-16.
More than a dozen competitors from the Moama Bowling Club made the trip to Queensland for the Open, with Millerick, Brighton, Bradley Campbell, Kath Wastell, John Worledge, Kevin Anderson, Kevin Connolly, Mark Chaplin, Sandra Connolly, Peter Campbell, Robert Wastell, Kelly Norris, Roy Jackson and Stuart Whyte all taking part.
Peter Campbell, Robert Wastell and Anderson all reached the third round of the men’s singles knockout stages before being eliminated.
They weren’t the only ones from the region to compete, with Peter Nesbit (Rich River), Ian Page and Bill Curnow (Echuca Bowls Club) and Paul Clear, Craig Hillier, Michael Humphreys and Joan Moss (Mathoura) also taking to the greens.
