On Friday night, Mooroopna product and Western Bulldogs forward Laitham Vandermeer suffered a hamstring injury in the loss to Port Adelaide.
During the third quarter of the match at Adelaide Oval, Vandermeer was helped from the ground while clutching his right leg.
Vandermeer is expected to miss up to two months of action.
The emerging talent recently returned from a hamstring injury in his left leg which he sustained earlier this season.
Western Bulldogs head of sports medicine Chris Bell said the club would take a conservative approach to Vandermeer’s rehab.
“This is the opposite hamstring to what Laith injured in the earlier part of the season,” Bell said.
“With Laitham lacking continuity and missing considerable game time over the past month, we will look to plan a conservative rehab program that will aim to enhance his durability.”
“At this stage, we will be planning that Laitham makes a return in around eight weeks.”
In better news for Bulldogs and GV fans, Kialla’s Alex Keath is expected to return to the line-up in the coming weeks.
Port Adelaide defender, Katamatite’s Tom Clurey, was a standout in the win, along with Deniliquin’s Todd Marshall and Echuca’s Ollie Wines.
Elsewhere, the breakout season of Shepparton export Will Brodie continued at the weekend.
The Fremantle off-season recruit accumulated a whopping 37 disposals in the Dockers’ blitz over North Melbourne.
Brodie, who has been a revelation in the midfield, helped guide Fremantle to a 78-point thumping of the Kangaroos.
Teammate and Cohuna product Josh Treacy starred with one goal and 12 touches in the win.
Seymour’s David Mundy (21 disposals, one goal and eight clearances) and Moama’s Lachie Schultz (one goal) provided brilliant support.
For North, Mooroopna’s Jy Simpkin battled hard with 18 disposals and five tackles.
Meanwhile, Benalla’s Harry Morrison flew the flag for Hawthorn in its disappointing loss to Essendon.
Morrison racked up 23 disposals, four clearances and a goal as the Hawks suffered a 27-point defeat.
Shepparton’s Jarman Impey was reliable in defence with a stellar 23-disposal game.
Mooroopna product Clayton Oliver was a standout for Melbourne in its scary win over St Kilda on Sunday at the MCG.
Oliver produced a mesmerising 38-disposal effort, which featured 15 in the second quarter alone, to guide the Dees to a 38-point victory.
The former Echuca junior is certain to have racked up another three Brownlow Medal votes in the win.
Lastly, Shepparton Swans’ Josh Rachele (one goal) and Shepparton’s Jordon Butts couldn’t help Adelaide get over the line against Carlton.
The same can be said for Tallygaroopna’s Steele Sidebottom who gathered 16 touches in Collingwood’s loss to Richmond.
And Kyabram’s Nick Holman helped Gold Coast secure a stunning upset win over Sydney.
