The Lions worked hard in blustery conditions to defeat Rochester 55-32 at Kings Park, their maiden win of the campaign coming in the side's first game in front of home fans.
After Seymour skipped away to a 10-goal lead at the first change, the Tigers fought back to take the second stanza by a goal and only lose the third by four.
But the home side finished off strongly to snare the final term by 10 goals and secure the 23-goal triumph.
“The girls found their rhythm a lot better today, our long court (passes) and our feeds from coast to coast were really good,” Seymour coach Ronni Hager said.
“I was really pleased with them. They worked hard for that though. The ball went from one end to the other quite a few times, but I think our centre pass structures were working much better for us this week, our defenders were terrific.
“They’re pretty reliable and they see a lot of ball too, that’s that transverse from coast to coast. That was pretty pleasing.”
Sarah Szczykulski was one of those defenders starring for the Lions, while Rosie O'Sullivan and Nakita Singe were also impressive.
The Seymour squad also had a collective height advantage on the young Tigers and used it expertly across the contest.
“We were fortunate, we’ve got a lot of elevation and they’re good with that elevation and picking off balls and getting their feet around to the front ball too,” Hager said.
“So we’re lucky there that we’ve got a bit of height.
“Szczykulski was good, she’s ever-reliable back there and I think our defenders in general have held us up a lot. They get together and once they gel they’re pretty formidable.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do, (especially with) some of our patchiness at times. It’s hard to get that momentum and then you get a bit of it and you might do a bit of stop-start netball and (it’s gone).
“Once they get that flow on it’s great to watch, some of those long-ball entries.”
Jasmine Condliffe, Eliza Williams and Madison Egglestone stood out for Rochester, which moves to 1-1 following its opening-round triumph over Kyabram.
After falling to Echuca in round one, the Lions are also 1-1.
“There’s a lot of pressure there to stay on that winners’ list,” Hager said.
“It’s nice to get that first win, it takes the target off your back a little bit. We’re all back into that neutral territory, so we’re all hunted really.
“I think we’ve got a blend of young and experienced players, so getting that working (is important).
“It looks great on paper, but getting it done out on court is the main thing.”
