The handicapper, who thankfully finally proved that he is not impervious to the frustrations of golf and is human after all on Saturday, has a theory for the lesser numbers, but we will allow him to elaborate on that should he choose to do so.
Cory Berghofer put in a solid performance to win the day, the Privilege Cup and the final spot in the “Tiger Cup” with his round of 81-12-69, two better than his closest rival.
He has had a good few weeks on the course and he will now have one less shot to play with next time he ventures to the course.
Cory also won the chook shed challenge with 12 points, a very good score for the four holes.
Ball competition winners were Larry Hockey with 71 and fashion trend-setter Bruce Brown with 72.
Larry Hockey had a great shot on the 12th, so close to a hole-in-one, to take the jackpot, the only nearest the pin to go off for the day.
A countback was required to determine the winner and runner-up in last Thursday’s twilight competition with Andrew Wood taking the honours with 41-4-37.
Woody was unlucky to have missed a number of the early rounds otherwise he would be right up there with the leaders, a place not unfamiliar to him as the competition comes to a conclusion.
Bruce Brown was the runner-up with 43-6-37.
Michael Doherty picked up the jackpot for nearest the pin on the ninth and Craig Doherty was closest on the 14th.
Jeff Parry won least putts with 13 and the two-point cut was 39.
There was no change at the top of the leader board as the three main contenders all scored only one point.
This Thursday will be the final round of this season’s twilight competition and will be followed by a pizza evening for all those with the munchies after golf.
Good luck to all those in contention going into the final round.
This Saturday’s event is the Bernie Doyle Memorial stableford.
