Goulburn Valley Bowls Division midweek pennant wrap | round nine

By Tyler Maher

Shepparton RSL held on for a tight victory in the final round of Goulburn Valley Bowls Division midweek pennant action before the festive season break yesterday.

The division three Rissoles ousted Mooroopna Golf by four shots in a 14-67 to 2-63 triumph at their Kialla Park Reserve facility, winning two of three rinks on offer.

Lina Conti's 31-16 victory led the way, while Sharon Newby also tasted success in her 25-14 result.

For the Golfers it was the rink of Christine O'Halloran (skip), Allan Beggs (third), Lionel Blake (second) and Barbara Bullen (lead) who were dominant in a 33-11 win, but it was not enough to reign supreme overall.

Other teams on the round nine winners’ list in the division were Kyabram, Seymour and Mooroopna against Murchison, East Shepparton and Euroa respectively.

● Division one action had Hill Top defeating Kyabram on all rinks in a stellar display.

The Power's Maree Boswell and Lyn Nicholson's Hillbillies quartet had a brilliant battle all game, with the latter eventually snaring a 24-23 result.

It took a mighty push late in the contest for that to happen though, with Boswell leading 18-6 after 15 ends.

A haul of six shots on the 17th end certainly helped Nicholson's cause, but it was picking up eight across the final three ends that went a long way to securing success.

Jeanette Overall also picked up eight shots in the last three ends for the Hillbillies in her clash against Jenni Dixon for a 28-17 result, while Di Downie's 31-23 victory also contributed heavily to the overall scoreline of 16-83 to 0-63.

Mooroopna Golf defeated Shepparton Golf 14-74 to 2-65, while Shepparton Park also secured success in it clash against Rushworth, 16-82 to 0-59.

● Tatura snuck home against Shepparton Golf in division two, winning 14-62 to 2-60 when the final bowl came to rest.

Freda Clement (23-19) and Dot Best (22-20) snared rink wins for the victor, with Rita Ivak (21-17) taking two points for the Golfers.

Shepparton Park, Kyabram and Stanhope also had plenty of reason to celebrate after tasting respective triumphs.

● Rushworth's success in division four came from just one rink win.

Chantel Wakenshaw's 37-16 result led the way against Kyabram in the 13-81 to 3-74 triumph.

The Power got two points back through Marilyn Anset (33-19), while Winifred Crilly and Rushworth's Kay Quirk drew 25-all.

Shepparton Park A, Hill Top, Nagambie and Shepparton Park B were among the other winners of the division.

● Those finishing the first section of the season on a high in division five included Colbinabbin, Shepparton Park and Seymour.
