GVL to face traditional rival

By Alex Mitchell

A historical rivalry of the highest order will be reignited next year, as the Goulburn Valley League returns to the interleague fray.

The GVL will battle its traditional foe in the Ovens and Murray League, a match which will see the Ash-Wilson Trophy put on the line for just the second time in nine years.

The GVL's 2020 fixture confirmed a general bye after round seven, allowing for the powerful leagues to square off on May 23.

A venue for the fixture remains unclear, but it will be a GVL home game, with Deakin Reserve and the Benalla Showgrounds among the leading contenders to host.

The teams have not square off since 2017 where the Ovens and Murray won by seven points in Wodonga.

Before that, the leagues last faced off in 2010 where it was the GVL that took victory.

More to come.
