At last San Carlo has a favourable draw.
The star Shepparton-trained pacer will come from barrier one in the second round of Inter Dominion heats tonight in Auckland over the 1700m sprint trip.
San Carlo has enough early speed to contest the front running, but co-trainer and driver Bec Bartley said there were options with his draw.
Bartley was happy with San Carlo’s fifth-placed finish – just 4.2m from the winner Ultimate Sniper - in the first round of heats last Friday night after racing without cover for the entire 2200m trip.
‘‘He went very and well and he was fresh when we jogged him this morning,’’ Bartley said from Auckland on Sunday morning.
Fellow Australian hope Bling It On, who performed well below expectations in the first round heats, is drawn to follow out San Carlo from his inside second row draw and if he produces his best form, will be hard to beat.
