During Central Coast’s second-round clash against the Sky Blues, Kuol struck the back of the net in the 20th minute at Pluim Park to give his side parity and again in the 35th, before being substituted on the hour mark of his second start for the Mariners.
His side conceded shortly after his exit from the pitch to go 3-2 behind, before heroics from John Roberts at the death earned the Mariners a point on home soil.
The South Sudanese-born star received a wealth of praise for his performance during the match, and has already given Gosford a taste of what the Goulburn Valley Suns faithful have enjoyed viewing in the past few seasons.
“I thought we had a lot of chances, we got in down the sides of them quite a lot – two goals from Alou, the new boy we signed… fantastic goals,” Mariners Academy coach Nick Montgomery said.
Since joining, Kuol has settled into life in the gold and blue jersey with ease, earning a start in the campaign opener against Canberra United where he first impressed Montgomery during the 3-1 triumph.
“Alou Kuol put in a really strong shift with Jordan (Smylie) up front,” he said following the round one win.
Boasting statistics that simply do not lie, after two games Kuol possesses a 75 per cent passing accuracy rate having nailed 18 of his total 24 attempts, a 40 per cent shot to goal ratio as well as an unflawed tackle rate, already making him one of the deadliest finishers in the competition.
But his mettle will be put to the test this weekend, as the Mariners face off against an unbeaten Western Sydney Wanderers youth side that finished as runner-up in last year’s competition, kicking off at 10.30am at Marconi Stadium.
