Haisman Shield round six day two preview - Katandra v Shepparton United

By Tyler Maher

A change of mindset is in order for Katandra tomorrow as it looks to salvage some points from its Haisman Shield clash against Shepparton United.

The round six Cricket Shepparton contest is already deep into the second innings of the match after United rolled the Eagles for just 54 and went to stumps on day one at 3-129.

It leaves an outright result within the realms of possibility tomorrow when the outfits resume their battle at Katandra Recreation Reserve.

When diagnosing what went wrong last week, Katandra vice-captain Corey Hickford felt the issue was clear.

“We were definitely stuck in one-day cricket mode,” Hickford said.

“The whole way down the order there were a few loose shots, we weren't leaving balls that we should have been and were just hitting them in the air.”

Before they can attempt to rectify their batting in this clash though, the Eagles must first dismiss United.

Keegan Armstrong was a rock at the crease last week and will resume on 69 not out from a mammoth 170 deliveries, and will be joined once again by Rehan Bari (23 not out from 42).

“We'll refocus and try to bowl our line and length,” Hickford said.

“We'll definitely try and put the pressure on them early and try to roll them as quickly as we can.

“Who knows, there's a chance of a reverse outright and you never know what might happen.

“(If we bat again), we have to not worry about the runs and just bat time.”

Katandra's case will be helped by the return of all-rounder Hadleigh Sirett, who was named as 12th man last week.

“(Hadleigh) will help a lot with bat and ball and probably in the field as well,” Hickford said.

But United will be relishing the chance to field again, if only to get the ball back into teenager Ethan McLaren's hands.

The speedster destroyed Katandra's batting line-up with 6-7 from 4.1 overs and will resume on a hat-trick when he next bowls.
