The Southerners, who will be playing their first game in three weeks, are looking to respond to a two-game losing streak when they take on the Border Raiders, with last weekend’s result against Swan Hill coming via forfeit.
But while the 5-2 loss to Shepparton United does not read like much, it is tied for the closest a team has got to the impenetrable Blues this season and just the second time the side has conceded two or more goals in a game.
Prolific striker Alannah Scopelliti scored in the United loss to make it 20 goals in 12 games this season, but forward Britney Scrivens has shot past her in the team’s scoring rankings with 26 in nine.
The duo will be confident of getting on the scoresheet against the struggling Border Raiders, who have taken just 15 points from 15 games this season to sit ninth on the table, outside the top eight which will contest the BASL Super Cup.
South won 7-0 when the sides met in round six in a match best remembered for Scrivens’ six-goal effort.
Elsewhere, Tatura will try and keep taking giant leaps forward when it travels to take on Eaglehawk. Battling the league’s second-ranked team appears a challenge, but the same thing was said before last weekend’s game where the stubborn Ibises ground out a 0-0 draw sixth-ranked La Trobe University.
But Eaglehawk is a genuine step up in class, the Hawks having whacked home a staggering 99 goals in 16 games this season, while conceding only 12.
The Hawks won 5-0 when the sides met in round six. The weekend’s other games see La Trobe University take on Strathdale and Spring Gully battle Epsom.
