Teams from India’s Kerala and Punjab regions as well as Fiji and Samoan Island sides hit the courts in search of victory, while a classical South Indian drumming band lit up the stadium from the sidelines with some traditional acoustics.
Attending the event was City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Kim O’Keeffe, who watched on as teams fought tooth and nail to do their respective nations proud.
Rounding out the tournament as the victor was Fiji, which produced an emphatic win against Punjab in the final with their nation's flags at their backs.
Shepparton Malayalee Association's Aneesh Jolly said the day's event was a step in the right direction for the community.
“It’s the first time we’ve done something like this as an association, we really wanted to be involved with other communities around us,'' she said.
