For the first time since the 2008 elimination final, the Rovers got the chance to sing their song in the post-season and they did it after a dynamite defensive display on a windy afternoon, allowing just two goals for the game.
What shaped as an even contest in the early stages, with the Rovers leading 15-13 at quarter-time, gradually turned into one-way traffic, with the Blues unable to find a major in any of the last three quarters.
The two-point quarter-time buffer was extended to 14 at half-time and while the Rovers were only 19 points ahead at the final break, the lead felt match-winning.
That was made a certainty as they piled on the last three goals to bank an 8.9 (57) to 2.8 (20) win, moving through to the semi-finals where they will face the loser of next weekend's Strathmerton-Berrigan qualifying final.
Electric talent Dylan Kerr led the way up forward with three goals, while Alex Hay's dominant performance had him close to best-on-ground.
Other stars for the Rovers included co-captains James Gilligan and Andy May, with silky defenders Des Morgan and Caleb Pannell important.
For United, the loss ends a season that never really got going, in which it went 7-9 to finish seventh on the ladder after a trip to the grand final last season.
Ben Gill finished his first season with the club with two goals against the Rovers, with Kyle Saunders, Reagan Hamilton and Blake Jorgensen also strong.
